Delhi Commission for Women on Monday said that the non-appearance before the commission in future will result in issuance of arrest wrrants and attachment of salary.
This was annouced after the DVW sought a legal opinion from senior advocate Indira Jaising.
Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of the DCW had sought a legal opinion on this issue.
A statement from the DCW said, “it is shocking to note that all State Women Commissions too possess the same powers but they are never used. The opinion given by Ms. Jaising in writing clarifies that the Commission has the authority to issue arrest warrants and property attachments against persons who fail to appear before the Commission on the summons issued to them.”
It furthet added that “from now on, if any person who intentionally fails to comply with the summons, appropriate action under law will be initiated by the Commission.”
On several occasions in the past, the accused have failed to turn up even after being summoned to do so.
