Eid al-Adha

He wrote on Twitter, “My best wishes on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. I hope it furthers the spirit of peace and happiness in our society. Eid Mubarak!”

President Ram Nath Kovind too extended Eid greetings in English, Hindi and Urdu from his official Twitter account. He wrote, “Eid Mubarak to all fellow citizens, especially to our Muslim brothers & sisters in India and abroad. Idu’I Zuha symbolizes love, fraternity and service to humanity. Let us commit ourselves to these universal values that represent our composite culture.”

Eid al-Adha is the second biggest festival for Muslims all over the world after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Holy month of Ramadan. Eid al-Adha is also known as Baqrid, when able Muslims also go on the annual pilgrimage of Hajj to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

There’s also a tradition of sacrificing animals on Baqrid to follow the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH), one of the many messengers who Muslims believe in.
