A farmer in Madhya Pradesh has been forced to plough his field using his two daughters in place of bulls. The photo of the farmer using his daughters while ploughing the field has now gone viral.
According to news agency ANI, the financial crisis forced the farmer in question in Sehore’s Basantpur Pangri to use his two daughters to pull the plough in their fields.
Sardar Barela, the farmer, said, “Don’t have enough money to buy oxen, ploughing fields to sow of maize crop. Daughter left studies after 8th standard.”
An embarrassed district administration has now swung into action and reportedly requested the family not to use their daughters for ploughing the fields.
Ashish Sharma, DPRO, told ANI, “The farmer has been instructed not to use children for such activities. Whatever help he can be given, the administration is looking into it.”
Farmers have been agitating in Madhya Pradesh for quite with their protests gaining momentum in the recent weeks. Not too long ago, five farmers were killed in police’s firing as they held protests demanding minimum support price for their farm produce, among other things.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often used the so-called progress in the agriculture sector in Madhya Pradesh while seeking votes in assembly elections.
However, the recent developments have given fresh ammunition to the opposition parties to attack the BJP and PM Modi.
