Danish Ali of JDS joins Mayawati’s BSP, says he has Deve Gowda’s blessings

Danish Ali of the JDS on Saturday quit his party to join Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party. Ali, who originally hails from Uttar Pradesh, was recently instrumental in finalising the seat-sharing deal between the Congress and the JDS in Karnataka.

Speaking about his decision to switch loyalty just before the Lok Sabha polls, Ali said that he had the blessings of HD Deve Gowda. ” I never asked for anything even when I was in the JDS, it was up to (Former Prime Minister) HD Deve Gowda ji to decide what work to assign me. I have come here after taking the blessings and permission of Deve Gowda ji. I will work wherever Behen ji (Mayawati) assigns me,” he was quoted by news agency ANI.

Ali added that his old party did not have a ‘large organisation structure’ in Uttar Pradesh and even with his best efforts he could not built one in his place of birth.

Uttar Pradesh goes to polls in seven phases with the counting scheduled for 23 May. Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav have struck a pre-poll alliance along with RLD for the 80 parliamentary seats of Uttar Pradesh.
