CBI conducts raids, recovers Rs 20 lakh from MCD employee


Proving the allegations of fake birth and death certificates scam in the BJP-run Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the CBI on Saturday carried out extensive searches on the residences of the civic body employees.

The searches, according to the PTI, were carried out in Padam Nagar and Sangam Vihar area.

She said the CBI had earlier carried out a joint raids at the office of Civil Line Zone of North MCD, Delhi on the allegations that fake birth and death certificates were being issued by certain officials of MCD in collusion with private touts.

“During the course of surprise check, large numbers of certificates were found to have been issued by MCD officials in collusion with certain touts on the strength of fake orders purportedly issued from the SDM office Model Town and SDM office, Civil Line, Delhi on payment of alleged illegal gratification,” the spokeswoman added.

After the checks, CBI had registered a case 22 June, 2015.

“During course of investigation, the role of a Sub Registrar of MCD acting in collusion with three touts had come to notice. Consequently, searches were conducted which led to recovery of cash of Rs 26 lakh (approx) from her residential premises,” she said.

Last year in June, the CBI had first unearthed what came to be known as birth certificate scam.

CBI’s raids were made following a tip off that officers of the BJP-controlled NDMC were allegedly working in connivance with touts for issuing birth certificates and minting money in the process.
