After escaping the police dragnet and brazenly posing for camera with a smiling face, the rape accused BJP MLA was finally arrested by the CBI on Friday. But, this was only after the Allahabad High Court adopted an incredibly harsh stance directing the state government to arrest Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
Sengar is accused of raping a teenager, whose father had died in police custody last week amidst allegations of torture. The development had sent raised serious questions on the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh.
The accused MLA had then visited Adityanatah in Lucknow. His photo of standing next the lift and posing for camera with a smiling face had evoked angry reactions from commentators and activists.
It took CBI around six hours to arrest Sengar, who’s now been charged under the stringent sexual offences law to protect children and the penal code, reported NDTV.
Some media reports said that the CBI had registered three separate cases, equivalent to three FIRs of rape, assault on Unnao girl’s father and counter assault on the MLA’s aides.
