Popular JNU professor, Vivek Kumar was reportedly attacked in Madhya Pradesh’s Gralior district by gunmen on Sunday.
A group of ‘unidentified’ gunmen fired at Professor Kumar, a Dalit, while he was attending a programme organised by Ambedkar Forum, reported Eenadu TV quoting police sources.
The professor was fired at when he reached the programme. He told www.jantakareporter.com that he was safe.
However, other sources said that while the members of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha did indulge in aerial firing and acts of vandalism, their target wasn’t the professor.
According to organisers of the event, the situation at the venue, Bal Bhavan, in the local municipality turned violent and scuffle broke out between the members of Ambedkar forum and Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha soon after firing incident.
Quoting Assistant Superintendent of Police Virendra Jain, Hindustan Times reported that on the complaint of Dinesh Maurya, an FIR against Vivek Sharma and 100 unknown persons under section 323, 324, 294, 506 (b) and 3 (1) (10) ST/SC act was lodged. The injured have been sent to hospital, while the police had launched an investigation.
