Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was assaulted by a man during his road show in Moti Nagar area of the national capital on Saturday.
Kejriwal was waving at people gathered across the road while holding the road show, when a man dressed in red shirt climbed up to his car and attacked. Kejriwal nearly fell down on the car before his party colleagues came to support him.
The man has been detained by police and is being interrogated.
Kejriwal’s deputy Manish Sisodia later tweeted calling the AAP chief’s attacker a Modi bhakt. He wrote on Twitter, “The attacker’s wife is saying that her husband is a Modi-bhakt, police claims he was an AAP leader. It is possible that after the interrogation of BJP (Delhi) Police, this man could deny that this woman is not his wife.”
Kejriwal was in news on Friday after a video of him calling BJP MP Manoj Tiwari naachne waala went viral.
This is not the first time that Kejriwal has been attacked. Last year in November, a man pretending to touch Arvind Kejriwal’s feet, had rubbed chilli powders in his eyes. In 2016, his car was attacked in Ludhiana in Punjab by stones and sticks.
Delhi’s seven parliamentary seats go to polls on 12 May with the counting scheduled for 23 May.
