The former finance minister, according to Zee News, is believed to have been put on life support and multidisciplinary team of doctors is supervising his treatment. The AIIMS has not issued any bulletin since 9 August, when the medical bulletin had read, “Shri Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is haemodynamically stable.”

66-year-old Jaitley did not contest this year’s Lok Sabha polls owing to poor health and also declined to accept any ministerial responsibilities. He held several key ministries including Finance and Defence portfolios during Modi’s first term as Prime Minister.

Jaitley had undergone a successful kidney transplant in March 2017.

The news of Jaitley’s deteriorating health comes just days after the veteran BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj passed away after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. She was 67.
