Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist is back with the trailer of what appears to be another blockbuster in Dangal.
Based on a wrestling and his determination to produce a Gold medal winning wrestler for his country, Dangal’s lead protagonist Aamir Khan is seen desperately wanting for a son, who would one day win glory for India at Olympic Games.
But, when his fourth child is also a girl, he’s reminded by circumstances that his girls can be as physically strong as sons.
This drives him to train his daughters to become World Champion wrestlers.
The trailer’s most powerful line comes when Aamir’s wife (played by Sakshi Tanwar) tells him, “wrestling is only for boys.”
Pat comes Aamir the father’s reply, “Are our girls any less than boys?”
Dangal, which is scheduled to hit cinemas in December, will also remind you of Sakshi Malik’s glory in this year’s Rio Olympics, where the Haryana girl had won bronze medal for India.
Aamir’s friend, Salman Khan, too had wrestling as a central theme of his last release, Sultan, which had smashed box office records in Bollywood.
Aamir, 51, shared the trailer of the real-life inspired drama on social media, writing, “Here goes… Tell me what you think. Love. a.”
A heavily-bearded, heavily-accented Aamir is perfect in his restrained act of wrestler-father but it is his two daughters Geeta and Babita, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who shine in the trailer.
Produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Disney’s Siddharth Roy Kapur, “Dangal” has been directed Nitesh Tiwari. It will hit theatres on December 23.
The trailer has earned plenty of plaudits from Bollywood crazy social media users. Here are some early reactions.
