Disgraced for kissing reality show’s child contestant, singer Papon stages comeback

Remember singer Papon, who was disgraced for kissing a child contestant of reality show, Voice India Kids, during Holi celebrations earlier this year? Well, after going into an oblivion of sorts, the singer from Assam has staged a comeback with a new song.

More than six months after the disgraceful episode, Papon has released his song Yeh Tishnagi from the movie III Smoking Barrels. Sung and composed by Papon the song is a rock song for the contemporary Bollywood genre. The song has been composed and sung by Papon himself.

Papon, who was judging the reality TV show for Zee Network’s &TV, had to quit the programme after he was caught on camera kissing a minor girl. The 41-year-old singer had vehemently denied any wrongdoing even though the viral video clearly showed him inappropriately forcing himself on the girl child during a Holi celebration.

His dirty act was broadcast live on Facebook causing unending embarrassment for himself and the girl contestant. Denying the charges of sexual attack, he had said, “Since I am in no mental state to fulfill most of my professional obligations, I have decided to step down as a judge on the show till the matter in which I have been falsely implicated is fully resolved and the investigations are over.”

Papon was caught smearing Holi colours on and grabbing the 11-year-old female contestant from the reality show to plant a kiss on her lips.

A Supreme Court lawyer had later filed a criminal complaint against him. Lawyer Runa Bhuyan had said in his complaint, “I am shocked to see the behaviour of the said singer Angarag Papon Mahanta towards a minor girl where he is seen to be applying colours on a minor girl and inappropriately kissing the said girl. On seeing the video, I am seriously concerned regarding the safety and security of minor girls participating in reality shows across India.”
