Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has dropped a bombshell for the BJP by announcing that she will not contest the next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking to reporters, she said, “Although this is decided by the party, I have made up my mind to not contest the next year’s Lok Sabha polls. I have conveyed the party leadership my decision.”

Not too long ago, Swaraj had faced incessant trolling by supporters from her own party after her ministry transferred an official for allegedly ill-treating an interfaith couple because of the girl’s decision to marry a Muslim boy. Some of the vicious trolls had even asked for her assassination.
Far from being fazed by the nasty trolling, Swaraj had taken to Twitter to name and shame her trolls. Her tormentors on Twitter had included some, who are followed by high-profile BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In her tweet, Swaraj even sarcastically wrote that she was ‘honoured with some tweet’ adding that she was sharing them with her followers.
It read, “I was out of India from 17th to 23rd June 2018. I do not know what happened in my absence. However, I am honoured with some tweets. I am sharing them with you. So I have liked them.”
Swaraj, who made the announcement in the poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, had won her last Lok Sabha polls from Vidisha in the state.
