An RTI seeking the names of people who have been provided Z+ security cover in India has been turned down by the government and the total expense incurred in this regard by various security agencies is also not estimated.

An Ahmedabad-based RTI activist has asked the government to provide this information via an online request while also asking them to reveal the total number of security guards for the said persons with Z+ cover.

Although the reply from the government did reveal that the number of protectees in the Central List in Z plus category was 31, no information of who these people were was disclosed.

Jantakareporter.com had recently carried reports of how several RTI requests seeking security for Amit Shah, educational qualifications of PM Modi and payment to Amitabh Bachchan for endorsing an LIC scheme were all turned down by the government.

Another RTI reply revealed that despite having allocated Rs 4000 crore for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet Namami Gange project, the central government has not spent a single penny towards cleaning the river Ganga in the first quarter of this financial year.

The Narendra Modi-led BJP government has faced a lot of criticism for providing Z+ security cover to RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat and BJP MLA Sangeet Som (accused in Muzaffarnagar riots) among others. Another Muzaffarnagar riots accused Prachi had also demanded Z+ cover for her protection citing threats to her life.
