“Donald Rumsfeld was a monster”: Tennis legend Martina Navratilova

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has said that former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who died at the age of 88, was a monster.

Reacting to Rumsfeld’s death, Navratilova tweeted, “Donald Rumsfeld was a monster. No tears here… #DonaldRumsfeld.”

Navratilova is regarded as one of the all-time tennis greats across the world. She won 18 major singles titles including nine Wimbledon, four US Open, three Australian Open and two French Open titles.

Rumsfeld’s family had said in a statement, “History may remember him for his extraordinary accomplishments over six decades of public service, but for those who knew him best and whose lives were forever changed as a result, we will remember his unwavering love for his wife Joyce, his family and friends, and the integrity he brought to a life dedicated to country.”

Navratilova wasn’t the only one condemning the former US Defence Secretary for his disgraceful role in attacking Iraq on false grounds. Twitter had exploded in anger with ‘rot in hell’ becoming a dominant theme of the social media conversation.

The war in Iraq in the wake of the 9/11 attacks had caused unimaginable deaths and destruction. Hundreds of thousands of civilians lost their lives.
