FIFA and Electronic Arts announced on Thursday that EA Sports FIFA 16 video game will feature 12 Women’s national soccer teams for the first time in the game’s history.
The game which released in 1993, only featured men’s team so far.
Steph Houghton, England women’s team captain and her team-mates have been included for play in one of the several game modes, as reported by BBC. Houghton was reported saying, “To be one of the first female players included is something we’ll always be able to look back on.”
She further added, “Hopefully it will help raise the profile of the women’s game even further.”
The development team behind the FIFA 16 designing has researched each player’s movement and likeness to authentically recreate the 12 teams.
“Bringing some of the best women’s players and teams in the world to our franchise is a massive event for EA Sports,” David Rutter, vice president and general manager of EA Sports, BBC reported.
