BJP’s trouble over Dalit controversy took another unpleasant turn after social media users began to post an old statement by the party’s controversial spokesperson, Shaina NC, made in 2014.

Shaina, in her reported statement, had said that she was confused whether the BSP chief Mayawati was ‘he’ or ‘she’.

She made the remarks while participating in Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) event at Jaipur.

The Mumbai-based BJP spokesperson was widely condemned by women activists then.

But the statement gained fresh attention on Thursday amidst raging protests against the BJP and its Gujarat government by Dalit supporters.

Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh witnessed hundreds of thousands of Dalits taking to streets to protest the ‘prostitute’ remarks made by the expelled BJP leader, Dayashankar Singh.

In Gujarat, where four Dalits were flogged in public by right-wing cow vigilantes, Dalits continued with their protests. The Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi visited the families of those thrashed by right-wing supporters.

Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, is scheduled to visit the families on Friday.

Meanwhile, social media users slammed Shaina all over again over her ‘misogynistic’ comments made two years ago.
