The JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was attacked with shoe as he prepared to address a seminar in Hyderabad on Thursday.
A member of the audience threw a shoe at Kanhaiya but it missed the target and fell just ahead of the stage.
The seminar on ‘Constitutional Rights’ was organised at Sundrayya Vignana Kendram (SVK) at Baghlingampally, a building run by Left parties.
The attacker was detained by police, even as commotion prevailed in the hall for sometime.
BBC later reported that the man who hurled shoe at Kanhaiya was from Gau Raksha Dal- a Hindu right-wing group claiming to fight for cow protection.
Although Kanhaiya requested people to leave him alone, the video showed the attacker being thrashed by crowd.
The seminar went on as planned.
