As reported by Janta Ka Reporter, India marked the 100th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Several high profile leaders including Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Amarinder Singh and British High Commissioner to India, Sir Dominic Asquith, had taken part in the memorial. Asquith had termed the massacre by General Dyer ‘shameful.’

Several Indian leaders including Capt Amarinder Singh have been demanding an unconditional apology from the British government over one of the darkest chapters of the Indian freedom struggle. Reacting to Singh’s demand for an apology,Harsimrat Kaur Badal tweeted accusing the former of hypocrisy. She wrote, “Pb CM @capt_amarinder took @RahulGandhi to Sri Akal Takht Sahib but lacked courage to ask him admit the @INCIndia’s sin of demolishing Sikhs’ highest religio-temporal seat with tanks & mortars. What a contrast with demand for British apology for #JallianwalaBaghMassacre!”

Far from being rattled by Badal’s jibe, Amarinder Singh, a former armed forces officer, responded sharply as he wrote, “Did you, your husband @officeofssbadal or his father, Prakash Singh Badal, ever apologise for your great grandfather, Sardar Sunder Singh Majithia’s lavish dinner to Gen Dyer on the day of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre? He was later knighted in 1926 for his loyalty and his deeds.”

Singh earned plenty of praise on social media for his powerful response to the union minister.
