Actor Priyanka Chopra has reportedly decided to sue billionaire businessman Nirav Modi, the man behind the Rs 11,000 crore PNB scam, reported Times Now. The CBI on Thursday launched an investigation into allegations how Modi, a close relative of Mukesh Ambani, had defrauded the Punjab National Bank of Rs 280 crore.

According to Times Now, Priyanka has accused Nirav Modi of defaulting on payment for the diamond advertisement she had shot for the billionaire businessman. Priyanka, along with actor Siddharth Malhotra, had shot an ad video promoting Nirav Modi diamond. There are reports that even Siddharth has been contemplating legal action against the fugitive businessman, who joined the CEO meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Davos last month.

Meanwhile, both Congress and Aam Aadmi Party launched stinging attacks against the BJP and PM Modi criticising his government for allowing Nirav Modi to leave India just before the Indian agencies filed an FIR against him for the financial fraud.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “Guide to Looting India by Nirav MODI 1. Hug PM Modi 2. Be seen with him in DAVOS Use that clout to: A. Steal 12,000Cr B. Slip out of the country like Mallya, while the Govt looks the other way.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Is it possible to believe that he or vijay mallya left the country without active connivance of BJP govt?”

According to Forbes magazine, Nirav Modi’s wealth was reported to be at $ 1.73 billion as on 15 February this year. “Modi grew up in Belgium, dropped out of Wharton and moved to India where he got trained in the diamond trade under his uncle. He went on to launch his own Nirav Modi brand with 16 stores in locations such as Delhi, Mumbai, New York, Hong Kong, London and Macau. Indian-born diamond jewellery designer Nirav Modi is the founder of the $2.3 billion (revenues) Firestar Diamond,” writes Forbes magazine about him.

The 48-year-old billionaire diamond merchant was ranked 85 in the Forbes’ list of the richest Indians in 2017. Nirav Modi had roped in Priyanka Chopra to be the global ambassador for the Nirav Modi brand last year. He left India even before the PNB could file an FIR giving rise to suspicion that his links with powerful people may have helped him escape.
