A class XI student killed herself in Noida after police allegedly refused to act on her complaint that she was being harassed by her neighbours.

The police have arrested one of the three accused.

The student was a resident of Chhajarsi village in Sector 63 of Noida. She committed suicide in her room just days after writing a suicide note.

The girl’s brother said, “I found a suicide note in her bag a few days ago. She had written that men from the family next door were harassing her for the last few days.”

He added that her sister had written that the men threatened her that if she did not come with them they would kidnap her and take her somewhere.

“We went to the police the same night to lodge a First Information Report but they did nothing,” he said.

The girl’s father said that for about four days police did nothing despite being told the names and address of the alleged stalkers, before she killed herself.

A senior police officer admitted that about four days before she committed suicide the girl’s family had visited the police station to register the complaint.

“Local police officials have been asked for an explanation on the incident. If the police station in-charge is at fault then action will be taken,” Noida Superintendent of Police Dinesh Yadav said.
