Delhi Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung has resigned. He submitted his resignation to the Centre’s Narendra Modi government.
Najeeb Jung would be returning to his first love, which is, academics, said a statement from the LG office.
Jung thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘all the help and cooperation’ he received during his time as the Lt Governor.
The statement added, “Shri Jung thanks to the people of Delhi for all support and affection specially during the one year’s President’s Rule in Delhi. When he got unstinted (sic) support from them and which in turn helped run the administration in Delhi smoothly and effortlessly.”
Jung also thanked Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, for his association ‘in the last two years.’
Ajay Chaudhary, the OSD to Jung, told ANI that the LG wanted to spend time with his family and his resignation was for personal reasons.
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken demanded explanation from the Centre on the reason behind Jung’s ‘unceremonious exit.’
“We would like to know from the Centre what is the reason behind this unceremonious exit,” Maken was quoted as saying.
Jung was always in loggerheads with the elected government of Delhi with Kejriwal often accusing him of being a stooge of the central government.
The matter related to the difference over administrative powers is currently being heard by the Supreme Court after the High Court had earlier declared the LG the administrative head of the national capital.
