Shawwal moon sighted in Saudi Arabia but Kerala doesn’t join this year

The Shawwal Moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia meaning that Eid-ul-fitr will be celebrated there on Tuesday. India may celebrate the biggest festival for Muslims on Wednesday. This year, even Kerala, which has traditionally followed Saudi Arabia, will celebrate the festival with the rest of India.

Pakistan, Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries too are likely to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.

The UAE, the US and the UK too are likely to celebrate Eid on Tuesday. Australia, Philippines and Indonesia are among those countries, where the moon has not been sighted and they may join India to celebrate the festival on Wednesday.

The official Twitter handle of Haramain Shareef in Saudi Arabia tweeted, “Reports coming in from Tumair, Saudi Arabia that the #Shawwal moon has been sighted. ‘Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday 4th June 2019 in Saudi Arabia. In Thailand, a tweet by the UAE Embassy said, “The Islamic Center in Thailand has announced that the final day of Ramadan is on Tuesday and Wednesday 5 June will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr,”

Eid is celebrated by Muslims around the World to mark the end of 29 or 30 days of fasting where Muslims abstain from eating or drinking from dawn to dusk.
