Indian pacer Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc at Perth as he sent six Australian batsmen back to dressing room when the hosts appeared to be heading to a big total in their second innings on the 4th day of the second Test.

Australia were 120 for 4 with their middle-order batsman Usman Khwaja inching towards his century when Shami began to strike. Not only did he get Khwaja out for 72, he went on to dismiss Shaun Marsh, Travis Head and Tim Paine.

India had scored 283 all out in their first innings in response to Australia’s 326. But thanks to Shami’s splendid spell, Australia were all out for 243 in their second innings. India now need 287 runs to win the second Test after having won the first Test at Adelaide Oval last week.

Monday’s game was marred by a heated exchange between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his Australian counterpart Tim Paine. Such was the fiasco that the umpires had to intervene. At one point the umpire was heard saying, ” Heyy.. Heyy.. That’s enough. Just play the game. ‘You both are captains’.”

This is what transpired between Kohli and Paine;

Paine to Kohli: You’re the one that lost it yesterday. Why are you trying to be cool today?

Umpire Chris Gaffaney: Oi, That’s enough, that’s enough.

Paine: We’re allowed to talk

Gaffaney: Nah Nah, Come on. Play the game. You guys are the captains.

Paine: We can have a conversation. That’s no swearing, no?

Gaffaney: Tim you’re the capyain.

Paine: Keep your cool Virat.

Kohli had to face plenty of backlash on social media by Australian supporters for his spat with Paine.

India finished the day 4 at 112 for five and need 175 runs to win the match. Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant are currently not out at 24 and 9 respectively.
