Veteran actor Kamal Haasan on Wednesday launched his new political outfit and it’s called Makkal Needhi Maiam. Announcing the name of his political party, Haasan said on Twitter, “The newly founded MAKKAL NEEDHI MAIAM is your party. It’s here to stay, and to make the change we all aspire for. Guide us to serve you.”

He said that his mission would be to create a corruption free state. “I will be seeking your suggestion rather than giving you speeches. I have shown you a morsel of the government I can cook for people here. The people who have gathered here are people who have enraged by the corruption prevalent in the state,” Haasan was quoted by News18.

Haasan has chosen Rameswaram as the venue to launch his party because of it being the birth place of his hero and former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam. He had tweeted earlier on Wednesday, “Greatness can come from simple beginnings. Actually it will come only from simplicity. Glad to start my journey from a great man’s simple abode.”

Among those who are joining Haasan for the launch of his political outfit also includes Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu too has extended his support even though he could not make it to Rameswaram. Haasan had told reporters, “Kejriwal is coming. Some others will be trying to come. Chandrababu Naidu called me last night. You keep asking me what my political inclinations are, I asked Chandrababu Naidu. He told me not to worry about that, the people’s word will be the political inclination.”

The veteran actor had also met the brother of APJ Abdul Kalam, Mohammed Muthumeera Lebbai Maraikkayar, after arriving in Rameswaram and sought his blessings.

Before inviting Kejriwal on the stage, Haasan said, “Tamil Nadu’s soul is burning today. Fingers which are drenched in corruption will be burnt. He told his supporters that there will be many more public meetings and this will not be a one-off thing.

“This is not a one-day thing. This will be a way of life. We are going to create a people’s party, today is one example. There will be many such public meetings.”

The party has also launched its official Twitter handle, which has attracted nearly 6,000 followers. Haasan has already made it clear that saffron will not be his colour implying that he will not align with the Hindutva forces.
