Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday came down heavily on the Haryana’s Manohar Lal Khattar government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi blaming the former to deliberately let Panchkula burn for political benefits.
It said, “you let Panchkula burn for political benefits.”
A furious High Court also slammed Modi when it said, “He is the Prime Minister of not the BJP but of India. “Is Haryana not a part of India? Why are Punjab and Haryana treated like step children?”
It was responding Centre’s lawyer’s defence that Friday’s violence was a matter of the state, reported NDTV.
To Khattar, the HC said, “You let the situation escalate. You surrendered to the situation… You are trying to crucify a small DCP of Panchkula what about those political masters who have been giving wrong directions?”
The court also did not take lightly to Khattar’s statement saying that some criminals had infiltrated into the crowd.
The court told the government lawyer,”Your Chief Minister said miscreants got mixed up with Dera people, giving the impression that they didn’t do anything, you’re still supporting them, you are the ones who made this happen.”
The High Court also asked the state government to present the full list of movable and immovable properties owned by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Haryana by 29 August, the date of next hearing. On Friday, the HC had decided to seize the properties of Singh to compensate the losses caused in violence.
The High Court’s strong words for Khattar government came a day after large-scale violence killed 31 people and left more than 250 injured.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the BJP High Command decided against removing Khattar from the post of chief minister. Sources close to the party leadership said that the BJP president, Amit Shah had a long meeting with Kailash Vijayvargiya, before deciding that Khattar must continue as the state’s chief minister.
Khattar was reportedly praised by Shah for keeping the death toll to ‘minimum’ in view of crores of followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was convicted by a CBI court of rape on Friday.
In a shocking development, a senior BJP MP, Sakshi Maharaj, had defended the ‘rapist’ godman calling him a noble soul while threatening that the court will be held responsible for more violence.
