First woman President of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, Darvesh Yadav, shot dead in Agra Civil Court

In another sign of rapidly deteriorating law and order in Uttar Pradesh, the first woman President of the state’s Bar Council, Darvesh Yadav, was shot inside the Agra Civil Court. The person, who shot Yadav dead is believed to be a lawyer, identified as Manish Sharma.

Sharma reportedly fired three rounds at Yadav, who was inside the chambers of Advocate Arvind Kumar Mishra when Sharma reportedly started firing at her. Eyewitnesses said that Yadav’s assassin also fire one round at himself.



Yadav was taken charge as the new President of Uttar Pradesh Bar Association two days ago.

Police told NDTV that that both Yadav and Sharma were taken to the Pushpanjali Multispeciality Hospital in Agra, but Yadav succumbed to her injuries soon afterwards. Sharma’s condition is stated to be critical.

Yadav was visiting the court premises to take part in a welcome ceremony to celebrate her election as the new President of the UP Bar Association. A news report by PTI said that Sharma suddenly stood up in the middle of the ceremony and opened fire at her.
