Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday issued a fresh appeal to commuters using the newly inaugurated Signature Bridge following three deaths.
Kejriwal tweeted, “I am extremely worried by the number of mishaps at the Signature Bridge. Signature Bridge is Delhi’s pride. This is my appeal to everyone, particularly youth, that they should exercise caution while taking selfies at the bridge. People should also avoid speeding. Your life is precious to the country and your family.”

Kejriwal’s appeal came after a motorcyclist from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh lost his life in an accident on the Signature Bridge. The deceased has been identified as Shankar, who was riding his bike. His 17-year-old cousin Deepak too was sitting behind and has sustained injuries. Shankar succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
Deepak said that both of them were wearing helmets when their bike hit the divider on Saturday morning. Shankar’s helmet, according to him, flew off his head just before the bike hit the divider.
On Friday two medical students had died after their bike hit the divider forcing them to fall 30 feet.
The bridge has become hugely popular among Delhi’s youth particularly thrill-seekers, who were found to be clicking selfies on what’s being termed as an engineering marvel. Not too long ago, the Delhi Police had booked a group of eunuchs for dancing topless.
The Delhi government had decided to earmark dedicated spots for people to click selfies at Signature Bridge. But, this, according to government sources, will happen only during the second phase’s of the bridge’s construction, scheduled to start this week.
