Unio HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday launched a scathing attack against her rivals on Rohith Vemula’s suicide and the charges of saffronisation of educational institutions.
She became emotional while seeking to make a point that the Congress party was attempting to politicise the death the Dalit scholar.
She said, “In his statement, Rohith Vemula said that no one was responsible for his death. No attempt was made to take Rohith Vemula to doctor, his body was used as political tool. The executive council that took the decision to suspend Rohith was appointed by Congress.
“I called the Telangana CM KCR, but he refused to answer my call. I’m still waiting for a call back from him. My name is Smriti Irani. I challenge you to tell me my caste.”
Her speech evoked overwhelming response from both her supporters and rivals. Irani became the top twitter trend in no time. Her supporters hailed her for what they felt was a fiery performance. while Irani’s detractors dubbed it as yet another acting performance.
Irani was a famous TV actor before she joined active politics.
Here’s a snapshot of twitter reaction on her speech.
