Authorities in Delhi’s Tihar Jail have reportedly increased the security of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi after singer Sidhu Moosewala’s last rites were performed in his native village on Tuesday. Lawrence Bishnoi’s associate and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar had claimed responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moosewala over the weekend. This had also brought the spotlight on Bishnoi’s role in the murder.
As per reports, Brar had taken to social media to announce his role behind Moosewala’s murder.
“Today, Moosewala was killed in Punjab, I, Sachin Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi take the responsibility. It’s our work. Moosewala’s name surfaced in our brother Vikramjit Singh Middukhera and Gurlal Brar’s murder, but the Punjab Police did not take any action against him. We also came to know that Moosewala was also involved in the encounter of our associate Ankit Bhadu. Moosewala was working against us. Delhi Police had taken his name but Moosewala used his political power and saved his skin each time,” Brar wrote in his biral social media post.
Brar, whose real name is Satenderjeet Singh, hails from Muktsar in Punjab and is believed to be hiding in Canada. Brar’s father served in the Punjab Police but was given forced retirement after his name surfaced in a murder case last year.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the Delhi Police reportedly grilled Lawrence Bishnoi inside Tihar Jail to know more about his role in the murder of Moosewala. According to some reports, Bishnoi used the mobile phone of one inmate, identified as Shahrukh, to stay in touch with Brar in Canada from inside the Tihar Jail.
“Shahrukh was brought to the Special Cell office for questioning. Gangster Kala Jathedi and his aide Kala Rana were already being questioned in the murder case. Shahrukh was then confronted with them,” the Tribune website quoted a Delhi Police source as saying.
30-year-old Lawrence Bishnoi is believed to be the leader of 700-member criminal gang. Born on February 12, 1993, Bishnoi is often referred to as ‘Don’ by his gang members, who are based in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. The Bishnoi gang is notorious for extorting money from liquor mafia, singers and affluent individuals.
Just like Brar, Bishnoi’s father too served in the police. He was a part of the Haryana Police but quit job after five years in service and shifted his attention to farming.
Bishnoi has a degree in law from Panjab University (PU). He joined the students politics of the university in 2009 when Brar was the president.
