Pro-BJP Kangana Ranaut, often referred to as half-educated starlet, has courted a fresh controversy after she publicly insulted India’s freedom fighters in a programme moderated by Times Now’s Navika Kumar. BJP MP Varun Gandhi has lashed out at Ranaut for her seditious remarks.
Speaking at a programme hosted by Navika Kumar, Ranaut said that what India achieved on 15 August 1947 from the British rulers was a ‘bheek’ adding that the country became truly independent in 2014 when Narendra Modi became the prime minister.
She said, “Of course, that wasn’t freedom, that we bheek. We got freedom in 2014.”
Ranaut’s disgraceful comments were welcomed by a round of clap from the audience. Even more shocking was Navika’s conduct since she failed to admonish Ranaut for her seditious comments. All she said, “This is why they say you are saffron.”
The video evoked angry reactions from netizens who demanded strict action against the actor, who’s notorious for her hate speech. Many also condemned Navika for disgracing the profession of journalism once again.
Varun Gandhi tweeted, “One day you insult Mahatma Gandhi ji and his sacrifice, the other day you honour his killer and now you dishonour the sacrifice of Martyr Mangal Pandey, Rani Laxmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and lakha of other freedom fighters.

Congress leader Salman Anees Soz tweeted, “ Some clapped when Kangana Ranaut said India’s real independence was in 2014 because 1947 was a charity case. The Times of India group enabled the insult to millions who resisted the British, those who were killed or jailed, those who loved India.”
Another user wrote, “ Kangana Ranaut has disrespected thousands of martyrs of Indian freedom struggle. She has disrespected the crores of people who fought against the British. Legal action must be taken against her.”
