The shocking murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala had brought the spotlight on Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, who claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post. Now Punjabi music fans are expressing their fear for another prominent singer Mankirt Aulakh. Aulakh had reportedly asked for security cover in April this year after he allegedly received threats to his life from the Davinder Bambiha group.
According to reports, the Davinder Bambiha group had issued chilling threats to Mankirt Aulakh in a Facebook post in April this year. In their post, the gangster group had accused Aulakh of being no less than any gangster as the singer was allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Aulakh had reportedly sought security for himself from the newly elected AAP government headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The Punjab Police were investigating the Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambiya’s case when they realised that Aulakh was next on the gangster’s hit list. In March this year, India’s international Kabaddi player, Sandeep Nangal Ambian (originally Sandeep Singh Sandhu), was shot dead in Jalandhar during a tournament.
The police’s worry assumed significance in light of Vikramjit Singh Middukhera’s murder in August last year. Middukhera, a youth Akali Dal leader, was Aulakh’s close friend.
The police had arrested three sharpshooters, who confessed to their crime, adding that they carried out the murder at the behest of gangsters Amit Dagar and Bhuppi Rana. These sharshooters were identified as Anil Kumar alias Latth, Sajjan Singh alias Bholu and Ajay Kumar alias Sunny members of Kaushal – Bambhia – Lucky Padial gang.
Reacting to Mossewala’s murder, Aulakh wrote on Instagram, “A mother lost her son.”
After threats received by Aulakh, the police had increased the singer’s security.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has vowed to hunt down Moosewala’s killers even though his political detractors have accused the AAP government of pushing Punjab in a state of anarchy.
Punjab has seen an alarming rise in the murder of high-profile people in the state. In 2018, Punjabi singer Parmish Verma was shot by unidentified assailants in Mohali. Verma was believed to be a close friend of Aulakh.
