A day after Indian government’s flip-flop, which finally led to Modi government finally confirming the removal of actor Aamir Khan’s as Incredible India’s mascot, the PK actor on Thursday said he respected the decision.

The BJP-led government’s decision was expected in light of Aamir’s criticism towards rising intolerance in India in the last 18 months.

But the government’s several U-turns throughout Wednesday left many baffled. This also gave credence to widespread perception that Modi government did not tolerate any criticism.

Critics may argue why the government had to discontinue with services of a an actor of Aamir’s stature particularly when it wasn’t costing the exchequer anything.

Aamir said that he will always be available to be associated with such initiatives meant for public interest in future if he’s approached by the government.

He siad, “It is the prerogative of the government to decide whether they need a brand ambassador for any campaign, and if so, who that ambassador should be. I respect the decision of the government to discontinue with my services. I am sure they will take all appropriate steps to do what is best for the country. Whether I am brand ambassador or not, India will remain Incredible, and that’s the way it should be.”
