Teen arrested in Australia over alleged terror plot

Police in Australia have arrested a 17 year old teenager in Melbourne for plotting to detonate three homemade bombs. They raided several properties in Melbourne as part of ongoing anti-terror operations.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said a bomb plot was in a “reasonably advanced state of preparation.”

Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Phelan said in a conference On Friday afternoon, “the teen was arrested in a joint federal-state police counter terrorism operation at his home in the upmarket suburb of Greenvale where the explosive devices were found. The bomb squad rendered the devices safe.”

Phelan refused to confirm reports that an attack was planned for Melbourne on Sunday on the occasion of Mother`s Day.

He said they could not yet say when or where the alleged act would occur but it is clear that something was going to happen.

Police said that they will not reveal the name of the teenager who had been charged and would be produced in court on Monday.
