WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature allowing its users across the globe to do video conferencing. Up until now, only two participants were allowed to do a video call.
In a blog post, the Facebook-owned entity said that going forward the application users both on Android and iOS will be able to have voice calls with three more people at any given time.
It said, “Over the last couple years, people have enjoyed making voice and video calls on WhatsApp. In fact, our users spend over 2 billion minutes on calls per day. We’re excited to announce that group calls for voice and video are coming to WhatsApp starting today.
“You can make a group call with up to four people total – anytime and anywhere. Just start a one-on-one voice or video call and tap the new “add participant” button in the top right corner to add more contacts to the call.”
The voice call on WhatsApp had started in 2016 and the messaging platform had given indication in May this year that it may add features to allow video conference on its App.
“Group calls are always end-to-end encrypted, and we’ve designed calling to work reliably around the world in different network conditions. The feature is currently rolling out on the iPhone and Android versions of our app,” the blog post by WhatsApp added.
How to make group video calls?
Call any of your contacts using the video call option. This will then allow you to click on a button at the top-right corner of the screen. This button will allow you to add three more participants each time you’ve managed to connect with your contact. However, it’s important to note that you need to download the latest version of the WhatsApp app via Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
