Wawrinka “wows” the audience, ousts Djokovic to win French Open

Eight seed, Stanislas Wawrinka defeated top-seed Novak Djokovic in the French open finals- 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4, thwarting Djokovic’s entry to the league of seven other tennis players winning the set of all four major titles.

Winning his second gram slam title, Wawrinka said, “It was an incredible atmosphere on court and I felt emotion like I never have before.”

“I would like to thank my coach Magnus Norman. You played in the final without winning but this victory is yours as well as mine.”

Djokovic cordially expressed his happiness congratulating Wawrinka on his victory. “There are things that are more important in life than victories and that is character and respect – Stan you are a great champion with big heart,” said he.

Addressing a press conference after the match the winner said,

” It is amazing for sure. I have a problem to realise that I really won the French Open because it is always the same after winning big title. You get lost in the mind… It is a great feeling but I need time to realise what I did… I am proud of winning tonight against Novak.”

He further commented on Djokovic saying,

“He is such a tough player to play especially in the final… A lot of respect to him and his team… He is a great friend.”
