Sania-Hingis win Wuhan Open, year’s seventh title


The top-seeded pair Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis defeated the Romanian duo Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu in straight sets to win the doubles title at the Wuhan Open tennis tournament in China on Saturday.

The Indo-Swiss combination hardly broke the sweat as they vanquished their opponents 6-2, 6-3.

This was the seventh title that Sania and Hingis have won this year. They have also won the Wimbledon and the US Open titles this year.

Sania and Hingis earlier defeated fourth seeds Hao-Ching Chan and Yung-Jan Chan of  Chinese Taipei 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals in only 53 minutes.

The Indo-Swiss pair’s title triumph was in the Guangzhou Open. They have now won an impressive seven doubles titles together, including the Wimbledon and US Open.
