Haryana Sports minister Anil Vij is set to leave on Sunday for a 10-day tour to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil “to boost the morale of the players from the state participating in the ongoing Olympics”.
Vij said he had received a number of messages from the players from Haryana participating in Rio, in which they requested him to come to Rio.
The minister also said even though he was not feeling well, he decided to go to Rio de Janeiro to boost the morale of the players from the state.
This after sports minister, Vijay Goel, caused huge embarrassment because of his alleged ‘rude behaviour’ prompting the Rio organising committee members to warn that his accreditation may be cancelled.
Miffed with Indian Sports Minister Vijay Goel’s entourage, Rio Olympic organisers had threatened to cancel his accreditation if unaccredited people accompanying him do not end their “aggressive and rude” behaviour.
“We have had multiple reports of your Minister for Sports trying to enter accredited areas at venues with unaccredited individuals. When the staff try to explain that this is not allowed, they report that the people with the Minister have become aggressive and rude and sometimes push past our staff,” Sarah Peterson, who is Continental Manager for Rio 2016 Organising Committee, said in a letter to Indian Chef-de-Mission Rakesh Gupta.
