There are reports of several people being killed in the German city of Muenster after a van drove into pedestrians on Saturday. Among those killed is also the driver of the van, said local police.
The cops said that they were not looking into more suspects. However, they have refused to give any more details on the motive or the identity of the driver. Britain’s Sky News said that the driver had shot himself.
Police have closed the area and asked people to avoid the city centre, reported BBC. Photos posted on social media showed chairs and tables of a nearby restaurant strewn all over the place. The restaurant in question is identified as The Kiepenkerl, which is very popular among tourists in the middle of Munster’s historical centre.
The Mayor of Muenster was quoted as saying, “The whole of Münster mourns this terrible event. Our sympathy goes out to the relatives of those who were killed, and we wish the injured a fast and speedy recovery.”
A spokeswoman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel said: “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families who were killed and injured.” Munster Police tweeted an appeal not to spread “rumours and misinformation.”
