The UK can start mass vaccinations for COVID-19 from as early as next week as it approved the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine. The UK has become the first country in the world to start mass vaccinations. As many as 8 lakh doses of vaccines will arrive in the country in the next few days. Authorities in the country have decided to administer the vaccine to the elderly population and the frontline healthcare workers on priority.
The UK has ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine, which is enough to cover the country’s 20 million adults. The bulk of the vaccination will take place in 2021. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged people to not get carried away by the excitement of the news.
Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccines with 95% success rate are being produced in Belgium and will be transported to the UK in -70C temperature.
Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine has been developed in a record 10 months as opposed to 10 years that it usually takes to develop such vaccines.
More than 10 lakh people have died globally ever since the pandemic originated from China.
