Unemployment was one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s important poll planks during the Lok Sabha elections. With global economy conditions deteriorating with each passing day, jobs for the young is an important target for any government trying to fulfil its promises.
Keeping this in mind, a web portal of the National Career Service Centre, www.ncs.gov.in, was launched by the PM on Monday 20th July 2015. A good initiative that still has a few questions to answer.
What is this portal going to do other than pacifying a job seeker? Are we going to shut down all employment exchanges? They have proved to be of no use anyway. Will the government hire only through this portal? What about the qualifying examinations? How would this invaluable data base help the government? These are questions that come to mind straightaway.
Strikingly, the portal already shows 2-crore people listed. Now did these people list themselves within the last two days or has the government accumulated all data from the employment exchanges throughout the nation?
As such, given the capacity of government servers, it seems impossible that the site did not crash with 2-crore hits in 48 hrs (It shows total hits at 309532). Almost 24 thousand skill providers are also mentioned in highlights but no details about their expertise, qualifications etc have been provided. A similar case is being seen with regard to career counsellors.
Palmistry, astrology etc are listed as professions. This does not suit the government until it is thinking about bringing the Rig Veda period back. Even pawn brokers are listed as professionals. Isn’t this shocking?
I request all the readers to go through this website and see the details for yourselves. ‘A pawn broker has to be a graduate!’ Hilariously, his safety and health requirements include ‘mildly hazardous’, and he ‘can have shoulder and neck pain!’
Also, the portal seems to have been built in a hurry and needs a lot of technical expertise to actually make it work. Although the professions are listed in alphabetical order, there is no provision as of today to go on to the next page.
Shocking to say the least. I hereby make an honest appeal to PM Modi to step out of Gujarat. Pawn brokers have ruined farmers and poor people elsewhere!
