Hacker group Legion on Sunday hacked into the Twitter handles of journalists Barkha Dutt and Ravish Kumar, both of whom are famous presenters on NDTV English and Hindi channels respectively.

The channel later tweeted informing that the hackers had gained access to Barkha’s emails too and were trying to use them out of context. According to NDTV, it was contacting relevant authorities including courts in the development.

The hackers posted offensive tweets from the Twitter accounts of both Barkha and Ravish but they were deleted soon.

The hackers group Legion had in the past hacked into the Twitter accounts of the Congress VP, Rahul Gandhi, the Indian National Congress and liquor baron, Vijay Mallya.

They also warned that their next target will be the former IPL chief, Lalit Modi.

One of the tweets posted by Legion from Ravish’s account clarified that the group did not belong to the BJP or the Prime Minister’s Office. Another tweet read, “Coming Up next- @LalitKModi leaks. Stay tuned.”

The latest incident of hacking will pose many questions to the central government’s plans to push digital economy in the wake of demonetisation announcement.

The critics of demonetisation have long argued that India was not yet ready to embrace digital economy in the absence of robust security system in place.
