“We will bury Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone alive if the movie is released.”

A self proclaimed Rajput leader Thakur Abhishek Som has threatened to bury Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone alive if their next film Padmaavat was released.

Som, who hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh told News18, “We will bury Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone alive if the movie is released.”

Bhansali is the director of Padmaavat, while Deepika is the lead female protagonist of the film.

His comments came hours after the Supreme Court reversed the ban imposed by four BJP-governed states namely Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

When challenged as to how he could make such statements in violation of the Supreme Court’s order, a defiant Som said that his community had always worshipped Padmaavati as their goddess.

“We’ve always opposed the idea of making a film on Padmaavati because she is our Goddess. Our ancestors worshipped her, we worship her and our future generations will continue to worship her. You don’t play with our self respect and pride… We respect the Supreme Court but they (SC judges) must respect our sentiments.”

When asked by News18 anchor to explicitly admit that the Supreme Court judges were wrong, Som said, “They themselves are victims. Only a few days ago, they (SC judges) had come out in the open to express their grievances in front of the country.”

Padmaavat was originally meant to be released as Padmaavati but the Indian censor board’s refusal to approve the film coupled with the violent protests by right-wing Hindutva brigade in parts of BJP-governed states delayed its release. The censor board later asked the makers of the film to change its name to Padmaavat. The certification issuing body, which reports to the central government’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry, had also recommended several cuts in the film.

Som’s threats are clearly a criminal act and he made similar threats from several national TV channels including ABP News and Times Now. Now the question is; will the law enforcing agencies in India arrest this motor-mouth hate-monger?
