Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has taunted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the arrest and the subsequent release on bail of his MLA, Commando Surinder Singh.
His tweet on Sunday morning said, “Modi government gets Commando Surinder arrested. In les than 24 hours, he gets bail. What is Modiji trying to achieve?”
Commando Surinder, who was arrested on Friday on the complaints from NDMC officials for allegedly manhandling an NDMC employee. He, was however, released on bail in less than 24 hours after Delhi Police had arrested him.
Singh, before a metropolitan judge, alleged that the case against him was politically motivated and was being pursued to stifle and embarrass the ruling party,”
In its observation, the court admitted that Delhi police was indulging in political vendetta against Commando Singh.
The court observed, “It’s been averred that this case has been actuated by political vendetta. Thus no prejudice is likely to be caused to the prosecution in case the accused persons are granted bail.”
This was in relation with an FIR, which registered against Singh at the Tughlaq Road police station last month. The incident had allegedly occurred when Singh intervened in a routine checking drive by NDMC employees in the area.
“Surinder Singh’s car reached the spot when Mukesh along with 10-12 NDMC employees was in the process of sanitising the footpath and roadside area occupied by the hawkers,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh had said. Singh punched .
His arrest had caused huge controversy with Aam Aadmi Party supporters taking to twitter to express their anger.
Commando Surinder, who shot to fame, through his heroics in 26/11 anti-terrorist operations, had later joined AAP after leaving the service. According to AAP, the MLA was targetted because of his vocal support for ex-servicemen protesting against Modi government demanding implementation of One Rank One Pension.
He was the third MLA to be arrested in the last two months. Former Delhi law minister Jitendra Singh Tomar was held in a fake educational degree case in June, while Manoj Kumar, Kondli MLA was apprehended in July.
AAP has also accused Delhi Police of harassing his MLAs at the behest of Narendra Modi-led central government. Kejriwal has even gone on record accusing Modi of avenging the humiliating electoral defeat of his party in Delhi elections.
