President Mukherjee’s escort car falls into gorge in Darjeeling, security personnel rescued

In a shocking incident, an escort car for President Pranab Mukherjee fell into a gorge in Darjeeling on Friday. Miraculously, all six security personnel traveling in the car were rescued in an operation that was overseen by West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee promised to reward the individuals, who successfully manged to rescue the President’s security personnel.

Banerjee’s convoy of cars, according to NDTV, was just behind that of President Pranab Mukherjee’s as they drove downhill to Bagdogra from Darjeeling, where the West Bengal government had hosted a reception for him during his trip.

President Mukherjee’s office tweeted about the incident, “Car in President’s carcade from Darjeeling to Bagdogra goes off road, minor injuries to security personnel; #PresidentMukherjee safe. Unfortunate accident involving escort vehicle in convoy enroute to Bagdogra today ;everybody well by grace of God #PresidentMukherjee.”
