Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday asked Prime Minister Modi if Bihar was up for an aution and he was making a bid when the latter address a rally in Aarah.
Modi in his rally in Aarah district had said, ” 50 hazar crore se Bihar ka kuch nahi hone wala hai. 70 hazar crore karoon ya phir 80 hazar karoon?”
In his speech, Modi announced a special financial package of Rs 1.25 lakh crore for Bihar.
As expected, Nitish Kumar wasted no time in launching a tirade against Modi calling him a man, who is “full of contempt for Bihar and its people” and slamming him for his beggar comment.
Nitish said, “The PM asked the people to guess, 50,000 crore, 70,000 crore etc, he said. Are you in an auction? Are you bidding for Bihar? Clearly he is (PM Modi) is full of contempt for Bihar and its people. I am sometimes very surprised and wonder as to from where does he get his facts. Today he called me beggar. How could I be both arrogant and beggar at the same time?”
Addressing a news conference, Nitish also attacked Modi for calling Bihar a Bimaru state.
He said, “States which have been given special status, are all of them ‘Bimaru’? He is the PM of the country. He talks of cooperative federalism. But works for something else. He humiliates the state government. Tries to prove them incompetent. But his saying doesn’t change anything. The PM says if the state is not BIMARU, then why are you asking for help? All the other states which have been given a special status for development, given funds are BIMARU?”
PM Modi’s attack on Nitish Kumar’s DNA during a rally in Muzaffarpur last month had prompted his political opponents to launch a statewide campaign against what they said was an insult to the people of Bihar.
