Hari Om, an accused in the 2015 Dadri lynching case, was on Monday arrested after a brief exchange of gunfire with police in Greater Noida. He was wanted in several cases of robbery and dishonestly receiving stolen property in Ghaziabad, reported news agency PTI.
Hari Om was earlier arrested for his involvement in the gruesome murder of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was killed for rumoured consumption and storage of beef in his house. One of Akhlaq’s sons is serving with the Indian Air Force.
Quoting police, PTI reported that 30-year-old Hari Om was wanted in at least four cases of robbery and dishonestly receiving stolen property in Ghaziabad. Police arrested him from near Samana Canal after cops were alerted about a suspicious movement in the area around midnight.
“When the police team reached the spot, Hariom started his motorcycle and tried to flee. When asked by police to stop for inquiry, he opened fire, inviting retaliatory firing,” a police spokesperson told the news agency.
The spokesperson added, “The accused, a resident of Bisahda village, got a bullet injury in his leg and was soon held by the team. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment.”
All accused in Mohamamd Akhlaq’s case are out on bail. Some of them had even attended the BJP’s election rally in Dadri. A video of these murder accused chanting Yogi, Yogi during an election rally of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had gone viral just before the general elections.
Speaking to Huffpost news website, Sisodia had justified the murder of Akhlaq saying that the deceased had ‘messsed’ with his religion and ‘gau mata.‘
