VP Hamid Ansari sanctions prosecution against JDU MP in fraud case


Vice President Hamid Ansari on Friday sanctioned prosecution against the JDU MP Anil Sahani in a fraud case.

This came after CBI, in October 2015, filed a chargesheet against Sahani, in the alleged LTC scam that broke out in 2013 with the probe agency claiming they caused a loss of Rs 23.71 lakh to the exchequer.

Sahabi, a Rajya Sabha MP, whose term ends in 2018, has always denied the allegations accusing the Modi government at the Centre of misusing the CBI to harass political opponents.

He had said, “I have not taken a single penny. This is yet another blatant attempt of the Centre to misuse of CBI by filing a bogus charge sheet against me at a time when elections in the state are at its peak,” Sahani said, when asked for his reaction to CBI action.”

This, according to Economic Times, is a first for the Rajya Sabha, such sanction has been given only twice earlier in the Lok Sabha. The first was in 2010 when then Speaker Meira Kumar gave sanction against Congress MP Rajaram Pal in the cash-for-query scam
