A woman in the national capital has filed a rape case against BJP leader from Uttarakhand, Harak Singh Rawat, ANI reported.

The reported said that the complaint was lodged on Friday against him with the Safadarjung police.

The victim has alleged that the former minister raped her at his Green Park residence, said a senior police officer.

Although this is not the first time Rawat, who recently defected from Congress to join the saffron party, has faced charges of sexual assaults.

A report by IANS said that in 2014, he was booked for allegedly molesting a 30-year-old woman, also in New Delhi.

Harak Singh Rawat, a powerful leader in Uttarakhand, had led the rebellion in May against Harish Rawat prompting the BJP-led central government to dismiss the elected government of the hill state.

The Supreme Court had later restored the government but it did not stay the Speaker’s order disqualifying the membership of Rawat and 8 other MLAs.

Delhi Police, which reports to the central government, has yet to act on the complaint. The cops in the national capital have lately earned public ridicule on social media platforms for its widely perceived biases in favour of the central government.

Delhi Police was also criticised for allegedly carrying our vendetta against the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs at the ‘behest’ of the BJP government at the Centre.

The cops in Delhi have so far arrested 11 AAP MLAs, while also filing cases against the 12th MLA and the DCW chief, Swati Maliwal.
