A BJP worker has accused senior BJP leader of Uttarakhand, Sanjay Kumar, of repeatedly sexually assaulting her and sending obscene photos and lewd messages on WhatsApp. Weeks after the saffron party removed Kumar from his post as the BJP’s general secretary, the woman has told a newspaper that the former often sent her photos of his private parts on WhatsApp.
“He would make indecent comments. At least twice, he tried to kiss me forcefully. He would regularly send me vulgar photographs downloaded from the Internet. He also sent me photographs of his private parts on WhatsApp but would delete them within seconds of sending them to me,” the woman was quoted by Indian Express.
The woman hails from Delhi but has been living in Dehradun, where she has been working at the BJP’s office as a data entry worker. She said that she came in contact with Kumar at the party office in February, when she was assigned the job of entering data of bank cheques received under the party’s fund-raising scheme, Aajivan Sahyog Nidhi.
She alleged that Kumar’s men even snatched her mobile phone, which had the details of her phone conversations. The Dehradun Police too have confirmed receiving a complaint from the woman about snatching of her phone. She reportedly filed the filed in October this year.
She shared her ordeal with her friends, who advised her to start recording Kumar’s phone calls on her phone. According to her, she started recording phone calls from Kumar from March this year. She left Dehradun after Hindi daily Amar Ujala carried a detailed report on her allegations of sexual harassment by Kumar saying that she feared for her safety in Uttarakhand.
What’s shocking is that the woman claimed to have approached senior leaders within the BJP but they ignored her complaint. “I spoke to (BJP state president) Ajay Bhatt over his (Kumar’s) indecent behaviour, but he (Bhatt) paid no heed my complaints,” Indian Express quoted her as saying.
Bhatt, for his part, has denied being approached by the complainant.
