Police fired in the air to disperse villagers who blocked traffic on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura after a speeding car killed a motorcycle rider and his son, officials said on Saturday.

The villagers held up traffic movement for over two hours on Friday evening following the death of Harpal, 30, a resident of Agra.

His wife Khushboo, 26, and their three children were seriously injured in the accident and rushed to a Agra hospital where one of the sons died.

The other three are battling for life.

Police fired in the air and used batons after villagers refused to allow traffic on the expressway.

“It was only after 8 p.m. that vehicles started moving. On both sides thousands of vehicles got stuck up,” said a motorist from Agra.
